VH mim mix
alright metalheads, september is Van Halen month!! the latest world tour of the once-mighty Van Halen kicks off tonite in charlotte, NC. it brings back the one and only Diamond David Lee Roth. so here is your primer. it's a VH-flavored mim mix:
one of the best songs of classic VH. they will play this one for sure! mean street
the last time eddie van halen recorded a song with david lee roth on vocals was on two songs included on Best of Volume 1 compilation. i really think this is one of their best songs recorded after 1984....
can't get this stuff no more
my favorite VH album is Fair Warning and this is a song i love because it has a little bit different style and groove from the signature VH sound...
push comes to shove
found this on the web several years ago and i have no clue who the artist is or where i got it. but it is funny....
van halen needs another singer
phone interview from earlier this year....
eddie and alex talk about wolfie
i witnessed the last "reunion" that occurred in greensboro in 2004. sammy hagar recorded vocals on 3 new songs and the band released them with some other classics on The Best of Both Worlds. this is the first one they played live that night. incidentally, michael anthony was not included on those 3 new studio tracks. but in the live version mikey has a huge vocal presence that really adds to this song about food and sex...
up for breakfast (live in greensboro '04; first time played live)
cover of "ain't talkin' 'bout love" from drive-by-truckers
and here is the best part.....
( if you download nothing else, get these ) i have a huge collection of cassette tapes. these next tracks are from a tape i recorded in 1984. it is from the Rockline radio show. it is a great example of Van Halen's life one the road at that time. they were touring all the time, they were partying all the time, and everyone wanted to be with them. dave, alex, and michael demonstrate what the rock star life was like in 1984 as they were just starting a massive world tour for the album 1984. eddie is not in this interview. and yes, i do still have a cassette player. and that vinyl album. yes, those things still work. you will notice some very lovely tape hiss and dragging in these mono tracks....
rockline part 1
rockline part 2
rockline part 3
rockline part 4
rockline part 5
another sorta quirky aspect of this tour is the the opening act.... Ky-Mani Marley ( homepage / wiki / unofficial / IMDb ) yes, he is yet another son of Bob Marley. but that don't make ky-mani just a reggae guy. he actually sounds more hip-hop than reggae. his new album is called Radio. here are some songs from his myspace page...
hustler
