free music is free music

music is just music. and no matter what category you wanna give it or what genre you wanna put it in, if the music is good, then the music is good. do you know what else is good? FREE STUFF! these days there ain't much free stuff in the world. however, as the author of this here blog thingy i have been given the opportunity to share some new sounds with everyone FOR FREE! that's right, these are all BRAND NEW SONGS that you can download for FREE! good stuff. free is good. free is free. and free music is free music....

these 5 acts may be new to some people out there. most of them were new to me. they represent 5 different styles of music but like i said before, if its good its good. and these are all good. i like 'em. you can listen to each song directly from the embedded player and/or you can also download the song using the link right below the DivShare player. enjoy…..

first up is Clarence Bucaro ( site / myspace ) with a song i really like alot. its kinda soulful and almost jazzy. clarence’s new album, New Orleans, will be released on October 13th, which is TOMORROW! Good timing eh?

clarence is a Cleveland native, but moved to New Orleans in 2004. the new album was named after the city where it was written and recorded. the musicians used in these sessions were Crescent City pros including Kirk Joseph, Doug Belote and Mike Burkhart. the songs on the album are about romance and an intense love affair. this collection is described as “sweet syncopated soul” and “gospel-tinged” and “intimate” and “warm”. i call it groovy. it you like some great Hammond organ playing, then you will like this...

now for something a little bit folky. and poppy. i guess. i’m not exactly sure how to describe the voice of David Meade ( site / myspace ) but his press release says he’s a “folkie pop crooner”. this song is from his new album Almost And Always which was released on August 4th. its David Mead’s fifth LP, and his first since 2006’s Tangerine. and apparently the critics like him.

this song was written by david and songwriting partner Bill DeMain. i really like the arrangement of acoustic guitars, banjo and piano on this recording. now check out the lead-off track from the new album...

now lets go in a completely different direction. how about some R&B/soul music from The Revelations featuring Tré Williams ( twitter / myspace ). rather than relying on studio trickery and samples, Tré Williams decided his golden voice would sound better backed by a full band of some of the finest soul musicians around. so he got The Revelations, a critically acclaimed Brooklyn-based R&B/Soul group. their debut LP together is called The Bleeding Edge. it was released on October 6th. this album is some straight up soul from a former Nas-collaborator, Tré Williams, who wrote all the lyrics for these songs with former Rocafella Records R&B artist Rell as his co-lyricist.

this is a great song. i don’t know squat about how a song becomes a hit but this sounds like a big one to me. see the video for this song at YouTube. or just hit the play button and let’s get down to it….

again we go in a completely different direction with the next track. this is the first band on the list that i had any previous knowledge of. Sister Hazel ( site / myspace ) is known for having several chart hits on rock radio during the 90’s

i have always thought of them as being one of those sorta post-grunge alternative rock bands that were influenced by heavy metal. and they certainly have some radio-friendly elements to their sound.

but did you know that members of the band are also “foodies”? well, who doesn’t like food? we all do. SH’s drummer, Mark Trojanowski, takes a turn as a restaurant critic when he reviews a new Italian place in New York City named Fabio Piccolo Fiore. Find his article HERE. mark’s contribution is part of a series of restaurant reviews on the NYC food scene at this site.

food is food. food is good. but there’s no food here. just good stuff. good tasting free tunes. now take a bite of sister hazel’s first single off their 7th album, Release, which was released on august 18th. check it out here...

i think i saved the best for last. this is one of my favorite new bands of the last 10 years or so. alot of people may not have heard of them yet but i love them. it's Mexican acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela ( site / myspace). the first time i saw them anywhere was on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson back in 2006. they blew me away. i couldn't believe the style and energy in their performance. these two are truly a guitar lovers dream even if you don’t usually like acoustic music.

then rob n’ gab was the first band that i saw perform at Bonnaroo in 2007. i wasn't anywhere close to the stage but i could hear them really well. and i could see them a little. i even shot a cell phone video of them. i could see the crowd going crazy as rob n’ gab go from an earthy flamenco-beat groove to a Metallica cover. its amazing how this guy and girl combo can hold command of an audience so easily using only acoustic guitars. no vocals. no fancy effects. no drums. just hands working. damn those hands are good.

the new album from rob n’ gab is called 11:11 and it was released on September 8th. it was was recorded in Ixtapa, Mexico and features 11 new original compositions. 11:11 is the band’s long-awaited follow-up to their 2006 self-titled debut which sold over half-a-million albums. 11:11 is the band's personal "gracias" to 11 musicians, both past and present, who have inspired them along the way. Alex Skolnick of Testament guests on the album, as do widely-respected acoustic veterans Strunz & Farah.

rob n’ gab are touring all over the world in the next few months. catch these energetic guitar virtuosos live in concert if you can. here is one of the new album's more powerfully rhythmic cuts, featuring the duo's patented interplay and Rodrigo using a wah-wah pedal on his acoustic. i love it!
