mim mix: first 100-something
i was originally gonna call this post "100 days, 100th post" in honor of President Obama's first 100 days in office and my first 100 posts. those two events almost lined up at exactly the same time back in april. it was gonna be a review of both. but it didn't quite happen. i never got around to actually writing very much until now...(late again) ...but instead, this post is coming on the one year anniversary of the election of Barack Obama as the brand new funky President of the United States of America. one year ago today i posted this.
i have lots and lots of thoughts and comments about what has and has not happened so far in Obama's administration. alot of good things really did happen in his first 100 days. and then the next 100 haven't been so easy. this week's local elections are an example of that. but local politics are very different than presidential politics. i can say that i am not disappointed in President Obama. but i will save my more lengthy comments about his accomplishments for another time.
our president is much better at getting things done than i am at working on this blog. it took me over 3 years to complete 115 posts. this is published post #116. i really hope to have alot more completed in the next year. many of my posts take too long because i add too much stuff and write too many words. so i'm gonna shut up and let the music do the talking for this one. sort of.
it is time to bring back the mim mix! i am sharing these songs thanks to DivShare, which i have recently started using. you can only listen to these using the DivShare player in this post. but some of these songs are also available for free download.(look for a link) some songs have been posted before. all you need is a web browser to rock some great tunes. so CRANK UP THOSE PC SPEAKERS! please enjoy the november mim mix.........
like i said before, Barack Obama is still the brand new funky President of the United States of America. its only been 10 months. it takes time to clean up a mess. stay funky. its still ok to dance...

and he's from Chicago. or is he? i thought he was Hawaiian? those crazy wacko birthers think he isn't even American. i know what won't be in America and won't be in Chicago, the Olympics. good try, mr. president, but i hope you'll be busy still doing the job in 2016.

back in the 1970's Parliament/Funkadelic wanted to turn Washington, DC into "Chocolate City". then, in 1992, George Clinton repeated that mantra with "Paint the White House Black". this uncensored version features Ice Cube, Chuck D, Dr Dre and some jokes about President Clinton. all presented by the other President Clinton, the President of Funk, George Clinton calling for a paint job on the White House....

during election season last year, i wrote about a very funky new song from the amazing Miss Joss Stone. it was a protest song that she originally wrote about British politics but the message could certainly apply in the USA. the song now appears on Joss's new album called Color Me Free. it is also still available for free download at head count.org ...

another hot new female artist on the scene is jazz singer and bassist Esperanza Spalding. i was lucky enuff to meet her and her band mates last february. read about it here. their concert was really great. see my video here. since then, esperanza has performed two times at the White House for the previously mentioned funky new president. i think that is so cool. i'm glad the Prez and i can both appreciate her amazing talent. i recently came across this bootleg from ES's set at this year's Newport Jazz Festival. this track is from that show. i can't wait to see her again...

like i said a few posts ago, its good to get free new music. especially when its a great new artist like Clarence Bucaro. i like his sound. its a little bit soul, a little bit pop, and some New Orleans mojo thrown in. listen for yourself. groovy uh? download here.

i have heard alot of new albums in recent months but none have rocked my world quite like Living Colour's The Chair in the Doorway. i have to concede that i have a bias because i am a big fan of the band. i have every album on CD. and this one holds up to the others quite well. this is the first single and you can find it available for free download here. please buy this album if you like the band at all. you won't be disappointed...

in honor of the eleventh month and the new album 11:11, i must re-post a piece of music that i just might love too much for my own good. i just freakin' love this track! it's Rodrigo y Gabriela's tribute to Jimi Hendrix...
